Application Forms

The application form you use depends on whether or not your Basset Hounds are spayed or neutered. There is no difference in fees or membership rights once you've been accepted as a member - the only difference is the application process. Although the club was initially formed by breeders, the club recognizes that a majority of the members simply love Basset Hounds and want to socialize and have fun. Both breeders and pet owners are welcome.

If all your hounds are spayed or neutered, you may apply as a Pet Owner. This is a simplified mechanism to become a member. Simply complete the application form below, mail it in to the club Secretary with your fees, and you're automatically a full member.

If your hounds are not spayed or neutered, then you are considered a potential breeder. The club takes Basset Hound breeding seriously, and will not approve membership for irresponsible breeders. This absolutely does not mean that we don't welcome new breeders or attempt to be "snobby" in who we accept for membership. One of the primary objectives of the club is to encourage and promote the responsible breeding of pure-bred Basset Hounds. If you're new to breeding and want to learn from people who have been through it all, you're welcome to join.

As a potential breeder, you must obtain 2 sponsors that are already club members. If you do not know 2 club members, please don't let this stop you from applying, and you should expect to be contacted by a breeder or board member to learn a little more about your breeding intentions. The typical process is that someone will phone or e-mail you if you don't have a sponsor, sponsor your application, present it the next club meeting (and another board member will sponsor if required), and give the club members an opportunity to do any research they see fit. At the next meeting after that, the club votes on your membership. Unless you've already got a bad track record as an irresponsible breeder, your application will undoubtedly be approved.

All applicants must agree to abide by the Club's Constitution and By-Laws (available upon request from the Secretary) and by the rules of the American Kennel Club (see
http://www.akc.org/insideAKC/regs.cfm for details).

The fees for 2005 are $15 for individual memberships and $20 for family memberships. Dues are payable on September 1st of each year. At the board's discretion, members who join in July or August typically get the extra 2 months for free.
